Detailed Itinerary of 5 Days Uganda Gorillas and Game Safari from Kigali

Day 1: Pick up and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park for evening game drive

You will be picked up from your hotel in Kigali after breakfast or at Kigali International Airport upon arrival and start your journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park in western Uganda. The journey takes you through Kabale with its beautiful green rolling hills and the Bunyaruguru – the beautiful crater lakes.

Along the way you will have lunch after crossing the border into Uganda, proceed with the journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park while enjoy stunning views of the rift valley. After arriving and checking at your lodge, you will have a short rest and later go on your first game drive on which you will see several animals including buffaloes, antelopes, elephants, lions, leopards among others. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Afternoon boat Cruise on Kazinga Channel

After a delicious breakfast, head to Kasenyi Plains for a morning game drive searching for some of the wildlife species you might have missed on the previous game drive. Later return to your lodge for lunch and short rest.

In the afternoon you will head to the jetty along the Kazinga Channel for the afternoon boat cruise. The cruise offers you chances of viewing animals like hippos and crocodiles in the waters, several water birds like herons, and herds of elephants and buffaloes along the banks of the channel as they drink water. Later return to your lodge and spend the evening at the lodge, have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with en-route game drive in the Ishasha Sector where you will get an opportunity to see the rare tree climbing lions lounging on fig tree branches.

Continue to Bwindi with en-route lunch. Arrive in the afternoon, check in at your lodge and spend the rest of the day at rest or take a walk around the lodge.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi Forest

After breakfast, you will be picked up by your driver guide with your packed lunch boxes and head to the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking. Your guide will take you through all the dos and donts while with mountain gorillas, after that you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek and then enter into the forest looking for mountain gorillas.

The trek takes approximately 2-5 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. Once you locate the gorilla family, you will spend one hour of photography and observing mountain gorillas as they go about their daily day activities.

Enjoy your lunch in the forest, then trek back to the park headquarters to pick your gorilla trekking certificates and proceed to your lodge. Spend the evening at leisure, alternatively you can opt to visit the local community or relax. Later have your dinner and overnight.
